De werkgroep beveelt aan om ouders met hun kind bij het doorbreken van de eerste tand (d.w.z. rond de leeftijd van 5 á 6 maanden) actief toe te leiden naar een mondzorgverlener (zie module Samenwerken voor mondgezondheid). Op basis van zelfgerapporteerde cijfers uit de gezondheidsenquete van het CBS ging in 2023 36,9% van de kinderen van 0-4 jaar minimaal 1 keer per jaar naar de tandarts, in de leeftijd van 4-12 ligt dit percentage een stuk hoger, op 94,4% (Contacten met de mondhygiënist, orthodontist en kaakchirurg tellen niet mee) [10].
