Vroeg en/of small voor gestational age (SGA) geboren kinderen

Methode

Bij het uitwerken van de inhoud van de richtlijn en het beantwoorden van de uitgangsvragen is waar mogelijk gebruikgemaakt van bewijs verkregen uit wetenschappelijk onderzoek. Waar (nog) geen wetenschappelijk bewijs gevonden werd, is uitgegaan van best practice en van de mening van de deskundigen uit de kern- en werkgroep.

Literatuuronderzoek

Aan de hand van specifieke zoektermen werd met hulp van de informatiespecialisten van TNO Child Health en de Orde van Medisch Specialisten gezocht naar gepubliceerde wetenschappelijke studies in de elektronische database Medline en voor één uitgangsvraag ook in PsycINFO. De literatuursearch richtte zich op de periode 2000 tot 2010. Indien nodig werd aanvullend gezocht naar studies. In eerste instantie werd gezocht naar (systematische reviews of meta-analyses van) gerandomiseerde gecontroleerde onderzoeken (RCT’s). Bij afwezigheid van RCT’s werd verder gezocht naar prospectieve vergelijkende gecontroleerde onderzoeken en prospectieve niet-vergelijkende onderzoeken.
De taal werd gelimiteerd tot Nederlands en Engels, tenzij anders vermeld (voor de zoekstrategieën zie de losse bijlage De gevonden literatuur is aan een uitgangsvraag toegekend door op de trefwoorden van de artikelen te zoeken. Hieruit volgde per uitgangsvraag een lijst met abstracts. Per uitgangsvraag zijn de abstracts door twee kerngroepleden beoordeeld op relevantie voor het beantwoorden van de uitgangsvraag. Dit resulteerde in een overzichtstabel per uitgangsvraag, die vervolgens is besproken met de kerngroepleden. De geselecteerde artikelen zijn beoordeeld op hun methodologische kwaliteit. Artikelen van matige of slechte kwaliteit werden uitgesloten. Na deze selectie bleven de artikelen over die als onderbouwing bij de verschillende conclusies in de richtlijn staan vermeld. Nadat het literatuuronderzoek heeft plaatsgevonden zijn nog artikelen gepubliceerd die relevant waren voor deze richtlijn (vanaf 2010) of toegevoegd op advies van de werkgroep. Deze zijn beoordeeld op relevantie en volgens onderstaande EBRO-methode en vervolgens alsnog toegevoegd aan deze richtlijn. Beoordeling van literatuur werd gedaan aan de hand van de EBRO-methode. Individuele studies werden beoordeeld op onderzoeksopzet/design. Naar aanleiding van deze beoordeling werd het bewijsniveau van studies bepaald volgens de classificatie in tabel 1 en 2. in de volgende sectie.
